Not saving enough Energy

In the news recently there has been a few articles discussing energy use in Pakistan. A new program has been put in place to encourage marketplaces and shopping areas to close early and government offices were closing for holidays and restrictions on their use of air conditioning.

These meadures have been taken due to power shortages - forcing action, but we see similar direction globally for us all to consider how and when we use energy.

This new program found that many areas were using up so much energy by not closing for the day until as late as 10 or 11pm. So they have now started to close earlier, around 8pm instead.

On the surface it seemed to me a very “over the top” way of saving energy. A very small area of energy use to change. But when you think about it, it really is all the small ways that are going to help us all start to join in this important job.

If no country or state takes the initiative and takes small action such as this, then who will? This could really be quite a large step in energy saving for Pakistan, and even many other countries.

By putting such a program in place the country encourages its businesses to take measures themselves to save energy. By seeing benefits they may receive these businesses may then start to make more effort within their home, or take extra measures at their business.

Realistically it has to start somewhere. And really for Pakistan I think this is quite a smart move even if it seems only a small one.
